Associate Writer

Kevin Dyer is an experienced playwright with over 30 commissioned plays behind him. He is also a published poet and playwright and has been a magazine and newspaper journalist and an arts reviewer.

He leads original writing workshops and mentors both professional and ‘new’ writers. Within the company he leads the writing of plays by many hands; is the writer on ‘devised’ plays; and he has worked with Vulavulani – Action Transport’s partner company in Soweto – on their last two projects.

Company Producer

Jess joined Action Transport in 2002 and now heads up all the tour booking, marketing, press and PR for the company.

Since graduating in 2000, Jess has worked as an arts administrator and tour booker for Liverpool based companies Rejects Revenge Theatre Company and Mersey Producers, as well as a stint as a Restaurant Manager for Chez Jules in Chester – well worth a visit!

In May 2005, Jess took her sabbatical where she volunteered on the Imaginate International Children’s Theatre Festival and relished her time spent in Edinburgh.

Highlights since having worked with the company include a visit to Soweto in December 2003 to work on the development of Vulavulani Theatre Company and the joint co-production of ‘Tselane’s Song’ which Jess went on to stage manage in autumn 2004 on its national tour.

Jess is currently a Board Member of The Valley Community Theatre in Liverpool.

Company Stage Manager

Mike Francis joined Action Tranpsort for the tour of ‘Mrs Noah and The Flood’ in 2002 and is now a permanent member of the team. Mike spent four weeks touring ‘Dumisani’s Drum’ to schools in Soweto in the Summer of 2003 and hasn’t looked back since!

Associate Director

Nina Hajiyianni has worked extensively in youth people’s theatre creating site specific, experimental and new touring work.

She was a company director of Theatre of Incurable Players and Associate Director with CTC Theatre Company. As a freelance director she directed 2 large-scale Community Plays and has worked for Theatre Powys, Northern Stage, The Live Theatre, Monster Productions and many others. In 2006, Nina ran a workshop at The Okinawa international children’s theatre festival in Japan and was recently short-listed for the Puppet Centre Trust Outstanding Achievement Bursary Awards. She was short-listed to direct the United Kingdom’s Holocaust Memorial Day National Event, 2007.

General Manager

Karen joined Action Transport Theatre Company in April 2006 and is responsible for the management of finances as well as taking care of Whitby Hall premises.

Although new to the Arts world, Karen has been known for putting on award winning performances when required. She has over 20 years experience of business administration and quality control.

There are extensive plans to improve the facilities within Whitby Hall for our young people to enjoy and Karen will be ensuring the refurbishment works are advanced over the coming year.

Since 1997 Guy has worked professionally within the young peoples’ theatre sector, touring with a number of exciting companies including; M6 Theatre, Mind the Gap, West Yorkshire Playhouse and the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield .

In 2001 Guy began working with Action Transport firstly as an actor and then as their Associate Director: Participation.

Guy has recently undertaken a career change and is now working for a disability arts organisation in Liverpool ; providing disabled young people with access to arts, theatre and play provision.

Guy is committed to creating and providing exciting and challenging opportunities for young people and is looking forward to what the future may bring as an Associate Artist.

Youth Theatre Leader

Jilly has worked as a primary school teacher as well as teaching GCSE and A level Drama. She taught Drama to profoundly deaf young people for three years and developed a strong physical style of direction. Jilly currently leads the 11-14 Junior Youth Theatre and is passionate about the power of drama to change young people’s lives.
